How it Works

  1. Apply to Be a Big Buddy: Complete a simple application and background check process to join our team of dedicated online reading buddies.

  2. Get Trained: Participate in 2 self-guided training sessions to prepare for your role as a Reading Buddy.

  3. Start Tutoring: Schedule and conduct online reading sessions with your Little Buddy, providing support and encouragement.

Big Buddy Requirements & Preferences

Safety and Security

  • Selective Recruitment

    All Big Buddies undergo a thorough screening process to ensure they meet our high standards of character and academic excellence.

  • Family Screening and Guidelines

    Families are also screened to ensure a safe and supportive environment for both students and Big Buddies. Clear guidelines are provided to families to promote respectful and constructive interactions.

  • Recorded Sessions

    Every reading session is recorded to maintain transparency and provide a clear record of interactions

  • Chat Disabled

    To maintain focus and security, chat features are turned off during sessions, ensuring all communication is appropriate and on-task.

  • Parental Supervision

    Parents are required to be within earshot during sessions, providing an additional layer of oversight and support.

  • Training and Reporting

    Big Buddies receive training to identify and report any challenges or abuse, with the assurance that they can report concerns anonymously.
